FEED Bags

I found these wonderful bags the other day. Not only are they helping the environment by not using disposable grocery sacks, but they will feed one child in Africa for 100 days. The catch is that child must attend school. So they are getting an education and getting one good meal a day. This particular bag was designed by Lauren Bush, who is the spokesperson for the World Food Programme. The bag is made of 100% organic cotton and natural burlap plus it is reversible.

Stuck On You

Sending a child, with food allergies, into the real world can be a bit scary at times. Especially when you are not there to monitor what they eat. That is why these wonderful stickers by Stuck On You would be so incredible to have. You could place them on your child's lunch box, cups, bags, etc. The possibilities are endless. They come in nut, dairy and egg free stickers. They come in several color, size and shape varieties. I would love to post a picture of them, but there site won't let me. Click here and it will take you to the exact page where they can be viewed.

Dairy-Free Creamy Caesar Salad

Having a child with a dairy allergy can find itself to be very challenging at times. Especially if you want to be creative in your cooking. I was looking for a good caesar salad recipe the other day and came across this Creamy Caesar Salad recipe from Cooking Light. I thought I would try it by replacing the yogurt with soy yogurt. It was so wonderful. I even took it to a potluck dinner the other night and had many people asking me to email them the recipe. It is better on the figure than most caesar salad recipes too.

Ingredients
1/3 cup plain fat-free yogurt (I replaced this with plain soy yogurt)
2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
1 tablespoon olive oil
2 teaspoons red wine vinegar
2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce

1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
1/2 teaspoon freshly ground pepper
1 garlic clove, minced

Preparation: Combine all ingredients in a bowl; stir well with a whisk.

Yield
1/2 cup (serving size: 1 tablespoon)

Food Allergy Awareness Week May 11-17th

This week is Food and Allergy Awareness Week. If just one more person out there can become educated on food allergies than I feel that is an accomplishment on my part.
While reading FAAN a very shocking statistic jumped out at me. In an average week in the United States, two or three otherwise healthy Americans will lose their lives, and nearly 5,000 will be hospitalized due to allergic reactions to foods. Approximately 6 to 8 percent of children under age 4 and nearly 4 percent of persons age 5 and older have a food allergy. The need to become educated on food allergies is so important. Especially those people who are caring for children with food allergies when their parents are not there.
Please visit FAAN for more information on food allergies

Divvies

I've been thinking long and hard about what my 1st blog should be about. Then I happened upon Divvies and I knew I had to write about them. If you have never heard of Divvies and have children with food allergies then your next stop should definitely be here.

Divvies was started in the kitchen of Lori who has a son with food allergies. If you have a child with food allergies you know how hard it is to find treats that are 100% safe for them. So Lori started making Benjamin fun safe snacks at home. They were so wonderful that Benjamin started sharing them with his friends. Now Divvies are made in a dedicated facility free of all peanuts, dairy, and eggs. For those of you who don't have food allergies they make wonderful vegan treats as well.

The choices are every child's dream, from an assortment of cookies and cupcakes to candies and popcorn. Hop on over to Divvies and pick up a sweet treat for your little sweetie. I know I am.
